THIS year has seen some horrifying images of disasters across the world.

Heatwaves in Europe are estimated to have caused between 4,723-16,500 deaths (London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Imperial College London).

The earthquake that struck Myanmar in March resulted in an estimated 4,500 fatalities, whilst floods in Pakistan and Nigeria combined caused around another 1,500 deaths.
