'Club must replace stars who leave us'
Birmingham Mail
|January 20, 2026
UNAI Emery insists Aston Villa had enough players to beat Everton on Sunday, but admits the club must work to replace those who have left - and those who will leave his squad in the next fortnight.
-
So far this winter, Villa have signed two players, Alysson and Brian Madjo, for a combined fee of around £20 million. However, both players, aged 19 and 17 respectively, have not been signed to play significant roles in the first team just yet.
After allowing Donyell Malen to leave on loan to AS Roma, with an obligation to buy, Villa are one attacker short. Meanwhile, Harvey Elliott has not played for months after Emery decided he does not want to sign him permanently - a clause that would be triggered after a certain number of matches.
