City's court delays among worst in UK

BIRMINGHAM courts have been named among the worst in the UK for delayed cases in part due to the 'state of the buildings.

The awful state of some UK courts has been laid bare in The Law Society's latest report which has called on the Government to invest in bringing buildings up to scratch.

Some courts were found to suffer from asbestos, mould, inadequate air conditioning, dilapidated toilets, rotting seagulls and cells 'regularly flooding with excrement'.

Birmingham Civil and Family Justice Centre was said to have 'dedicated and diligent security staff' who were 'doing their very best in deteriorating conditions'.

And, while no other court in the city was singled out, Birmingham law buildings were said to be among the most frequently mentioned by solicitors for having cases delayed.
