City bins boss hails recycling push as strike action rolls on

BIRMINGHAM’S bins boss has thanked residents for their patience amid the prospect of the city going 15 months without recycling collections.

The ongoing bins strike not only led to mountains of waste piling up in city streets during its height but also saw recycling collections suspended back in February.

Labour-run Birmingham City Council confirmed this week that its delayed transformation of the waste service, which includes the reintroduction of recycling, is set to go ahead next June - regardless of the strike.

But if the strike drags on into next May, that means residents in Birmingham will have gone around 15 months without their recycling being picked up.
