Allsop: I'm so proud to sign new a deal to stay with Blues

RYAN Allsop has spoken of his pride at signing a new Birmingham City contract and his ongoing battle to be Blues’ first-choice goalkeeper.

The club confirmed on Tuesday afternoon the 33-year-old has been awarded an extension until 2028 as a reward for his time at St Andrew's.

Allsop has had a rollercoaster ride so far, being forced to wait for his chance behind Bailey Peacock-Farrell last season, before going on to win the Golden Gloves award for League One and playing his part in an historic title campaign.

He retained the starter’s berth this term but after eight games lost his place to loan signing James Beadle who has been impressive since arriving from Brighton.

In an interview with Blues TV, Allsop addressed the situation this season and last, saying: “It’s part of football now isn’t it? As you get older you sort of accept it a little bit more

“Not that I was happy not to play, I wasn’t and obviously at the moment and James is playing and I want to play.
