Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump were set to meet in Florida yesterday to hammer out a plan to end the war in Ukraine, amid major differences on key issues and renewed Russian air attacks.

Russia struck Kyiv and other parts of war-torn Ukraine with hundreds of missiles and drones on Saturday, knocking out power and heating supplies in parts of the capital. Mr Zelensky described the strikes as Moscow's response to ongoing US-brokered peace efforts.

Mr Zelensky told journalists he planned to discuss the future of eastern Ukraine's contested Donbas region during the talks at Mr Trump's Florida residence, along with the fate of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and other issues.

Moscow has repeatedly insisted that Ukraine cede all of Donbas, including areas still under Kyiv's control. Russian officials have objected to other elements of the latest proposal, fuelling doubts over whether President Vladimir Putin would accept any agreement emerging from the talks.
