Voters, time to brush up!

With less than 40 days to go before the February general election, the Election Commission (EC) has yet to show it is capable of organising a meaningful public referendum on rewriting the charter.

It is first time in the country's history that a national election and public referendum on this topic will be held on the same day.

So far, the cabinet has approved almost 8.9 billion baht for this doubleheader. Of that amount, 6.75 billion baht is to be used for the election, 525 million baht for organising the referendum, and 1.7 billion baht for personnel and operational expenses.

Yet the EC seems to be devoting more energy on the election. Politicians and experts have complained the office is being slow and has not properly prepared voters to understand the content of the referendum.
