TSMC profit jumps, upbeat on outlook

TAIPEI: Taiwan’s TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, logged a forecast-beating 50% leap in quarterly profit and said it still expects robust growth this year despite US President Donald Trump’s unpredictable trade policies.

The bellwether for the global chip industry kept its annual outlook for sales and capital spending unchanged and forecast AI chips to continue to double. The bullish outlook comes despite market concerns about a slowdown due to tightening US chip export controls.

Executive said that while they understood there were risks from US tariffs, the company’s business would be supported by robust artificial intelligence demand.

“We have not seen any change in our customers’ behaviour so far,” Chief Executive C.C. Wei said when asked about the impact of Trump’s tariff policies.
