Confidence in the Social Security Fund (SSF) has been shaken by controversial investments, prompting Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to instruct the Labour Ministry to take charge of the issue.
Mr Anutin said he has not yet received a formal report on allegations that the Social Security Office’s (SSO) administrative budget was used for questionable spending, including a reported 12-million-baht renovation of a canteen within the Labour Ministry compound. He added that he has yet to meet Labour Minister Treenuch Thienthong, but stressed that Ms Treenuch remains responsible for overseeing the matter.
While acknowledging public concern, the premier said there was no indication that the situation has escalated beyond the ministry's capacity to manage.
