The tourism sector could slow for the remainder of the year, hampered by intense competition from Vietnam and South Korea, which are offering visa exemptions to more markets, while nearly half of Thai hotels said the domestic co-payment scheme didn’t effectively improve revenue.
South Korea announced it will implement a visa-free policy for Chinese tour groups in September ahead of China’s Golden Week in October, while Vietnam expanded visa-free entry to 12 more markets, including Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland, offering the perk to 39 markets.
