Survey: Thai firms concerned about graft

Most Thai businesses are deeply worried about corruption, with a new survey revealing 97% of companies believe graft has become a critical threat to the country's economy and requires urgent solutions, according to the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking (JSCCIB).

The nationwide poll surveyed 1,771 companies and 3,043 individuals, revealing widespread concern across both the private sector and the public.

Among the public, 77% of respondents said corruption among political parties and politicians is one of the country's most pressing issues, said Sauwanee Thairungroj, adviser to the University Council of the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce.

The results come weeks before Thais head to the polls for a general election on Feb 8, where corruption has emerged as a central theme in campaign debates.
