Supply chain disruption hampering carriers
Bangkok Post
|November 11, 2025
Supply chain disruption has caused aircraft delivery delays, hampering airline fleet strategy and leading a carrier to cease operations in the case of AirJapan.
The aviation industry has a lower aircraft retirement rate than before the pandemic with persistent maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) spending. Production rates are expected to recover by 2027 or 2028, according to Alton Aviation, an aviation consultancy.
Last month, ANA Group announced a restructuring programme, ceasing the operations of the long-haul low-cost carrier AirJapan in March 2026 to optimise the group's resources.
The group stated that the ongoing war in Ukraine and aircraft delivery delays would continue to hamper aviation.
The delivery of Boeing 777X aircraft has been pushed back further to early 2027 from 2026, impacting many global carriers, such as ANA Group, Lufthansa and Emirates.
Joshua Ng, director of Alton Aviation, said delivery of the B777X series has been delayed repeatedly.
