Australia will establish a royal commission to investigate the mass shooting that killed 15 people at Bondi Beach, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said yesterday, bowing to mounting public pressure for a wide-ranging inquiry.

“I've repeatedly said that our government's priority is to promote unity and social cohesion. That is what Australia needs to heal,” Mr Albanese told reporters.

The Dec 14 attack, Australia’s deadliest mass shooting in 30 years, allegedly targeted Jewish people attending a Hanukkah celebration near the beach. Authorities said Sajid Akram and his son, Naveed, carried out the ISIS-inspired assault.
