Private sector launches anti-corruption drive

The Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking (JSCCIB) has established a working group called "Zero Corruption: JSCCIB and Friends Won't Tolerate It" to declare the Thai private sector's opposition to all forms of corruption.

The initiative focuses on six areas under a "quick impact plan" for six months, with cooperation from partner networks including the Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand (ACT), the Thai Private Sector Collective Action Against Corruption, and the Thailand Institute of Justice, as well as the Stock Exchange of Thailand, the Thai National Shippers' Council, the Federation of Thai Capital Market Organizations, the Thailand Federation of Accounting Professions, and the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand.

Academic partners include the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Thailand Development Research Institute, which also participate to jointly design policy proposals. These proposals are to be formulated into an action plan for all sectors, submitted to the government for structural enforcement.

The initiative is preparing to extend cooperation to enforcement bodies such as the National AntiCorruption Commission and the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission to support law enforcement.
