Prasert mum on Worldcoin MoU

Bangkok Post

February 20, 2026

Former digital economy minister Prasert Jantararuangtong declined yesterday to disclose details of his statement to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) over a controversial memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the ministry and a Singapore-based firm related to cryptocurrency.

- AEKARACH SATTABURUTH

The MoU, which was cancelled by incumbent Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob, is allegedly linked to an iris-scanning cryptocurrency initiative in which authorities said that more than 1.2 million Thais scanned their irises in 2024 to verify their identities in exchange for Worldcoin tokens.

Mr Prasert, also secretary-general of the Pheu Thai Party, said he could not provide details of his statement as the matter is being investigated by the DSI and the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
