Reform plan targets board structure
The People’s Party says it will move immediately to table a sweeping overhaul of the Social Security system, proposing a new board structure that shifts authority away from the state and towards the contributors who fund it.
Sahassawat Kumkong, MP-elect for Chon Buri, said yesterday the party would submit a draft Social Security Act to parliament as soon as the new session opens, citing mounting concern among the country’s 24 million insured persons over how their contributions are managed.
“At this moment, insured persons are worried about how their money is being used,” he said, arguing that reform cannot wait for the typically lengthy legislative process.
