Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul stunned world No.9 Chou Tien-chen to advance to the quarterfinals of the US$475,000 (approx 15.2 million baht) Kumamoto Masters Japan 2025 yesterday.
The 21-year-old Thai rising star, who is unseeded, knocked out the second seed from Taiwan 21-19, 21-16 in 40 minutes at the World Tour Super 500 event at Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium.
The 48th-ranked Panitchaphon will play sixth seed Kenta Nishimoto of Japan in the last eight of the men's singles event today. Nishimoto, who knocked out Malaysia's Kok Jing Hong yesterday, beat Panitchaphon's compatriot Kantaphon Wangcharoen in the first round.
