Govt reaches out to foreign partners

Thailand is committed to working with international partners, including the United States, South Korea and neighbouring countries, to crack down on online scam networks, the government reaffirmed yesterday.

The government has already engaged in broad policy discussions with its partners on how to suppress online scam operations, which have become a regional threat, said Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

“We are already talking about the overall framework,’ Mr Anutin said. He confirmed that he is scheduled to hold a bilateral discussion with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Summit in South Korea later this year. Online scams will be a key agenda item.

“Talks have progressed on all fronts,” he said.
