Locals push back on deed plan

Residents and business leaders in Buri Ram are opposing the government's plan to revoke land title deeds in the Khao Kradong area, warning it could cause damages exceeding 5 billion baht.

The controversy follows Interior Minister Phumtham Wechayachai’s announcement on Aug | that 995 landholders occupying more than 5,083 rai will lose their rights, as the land is allegedly owned by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).

Among the affected sites are the Chang International Circuit — Thailand's only FIA Grade 1 and FIM Grade A racetrack — and the FIFA-standard Chang Arena. Both venues are considered vital to the province's sports, tourism, and economic landscape.

“This is not just a racetrack. It drives Thailand’s motorsports industry, supports hospitality, tourism, and tens of thousands of jobs,” said Tanaisiri Chanvitayarom, managing director of the circuit.
