Italy, Poland to lock horns in quarters

Top-ranked Italy will meet Poland in the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship after both teams moved past their opponents in the Round of 16 on Saturday.

The reigning Olympic and Volleyball Nations League champions Italy hammered Germany 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-11), with star opposite Paola Egonu producing a match-high 21 points at Bangkok's Indoor Stadium.
Outside hitter Stella Nervini contributed another 11 points, while middle blocker Sarah Fahr scored 10 points as Italy extended their win-streak to 33 in official matches.
“We don’t think about that [record]. Wins in a row are not our goal. The goal is to do our best and win the game,” said Italy's outside Myriam Sylla, who chipped in with eight points in offence.
