GWM to ramp up BEV output to 14,500

Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor (GWM) has announced plans to ramp up its annual production capacity of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in Thailand to 14,500 units within the next two years, aligning with requirements under the government's EV incentive schemes.

Managing director Wayne Zhou said the company is confident it can meet the government's local production targets.

"GWM expects to produce its cars locally in 2025 at 10,000 units," said Mr Zhou.

Last year, the automaker manufactured 3,000 BEVs to offset imported vehicles, fulfilling obligations under the EV incentive programme.

Thailand's EV3.0 and EV3.5 incentive schemes require automakers to balance imports with domestic production in exchange for tax cuts and subsidies.
