Two statements issued by National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) officials, urging a commissioner to resign over bribery allegations involving gold bars, suggest moral hazard at the country’s graft-busting office.

Since Jan 6, NACC officials have sent two unsigned statements to the public calling on one of their commissioners to resign. The latest was released yesterday.

The NACC has been rocked by scandal since last month after police publicly accused an NACC commissioner and one official of bribery involving gold bars allegedly received from a former deputy national police chief in exchange for clearing a corruption investigation.

Video clips showing a van believed to belong to the accused commissioner picking up bags of gold bars, along with audio clips between the alleged go-between and NACC staff, have gone viral since late last month.

Police are forwarding the evidence to the public prosecutor, who will decide whether to send the case to court.
