Global pact targets cybercrime groups

About 60 countries have agreed to elevate the fight against online scams to a top policy priority, pledging stronger domestic legislation and closer cross-border cooperation to counter rapidly expanding cyber fraud networks.
The commitment was formalised yesterday with the adoption of the 2025 Bangkok Joint Statement at the conclusion of the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams (IC-GPOS) in Bangkok.
The meeting was co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, said member states had agreed to treat online scams as an urgent national and international security issue, requiring sustained political commitment, adequate resources and stronger governance frameworks.
