Flood committee 'not needed'

Opposition leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, party-list MP and head of the People’s Party (PP), has issued an open letter to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul criticising the government's decision to form a committee to draw lessons from the recent flooding, arguing the move is inappropriate.

The letter, released yesterday, said the committee's creation reflects an attitude as if Thailand had never experienced past disasters, despite repeated failures by central and local authorities as well as political parties.

Mr Natthaphong said the country has accumulated ample lessons over the years, yet successive governments have refused to acknowledge or act on them. If the prime minister truly wants tangible results, he argued, he could simply call internal meetings and issue clear instructions within days or weeks, leading to cabinet resolutions.
