First day of 20-baht fare sign-up ‘smooth’

The first day of registration for the 20-baht fare cap for electric train rides across Bangkok went smoothly, according to the Department of Rail Transport (DRT).
DRT director-general, Pichet Kunadhamraks, said yesterday there were no reports of the Tang Rat mobile application crashing on the first day of registration, which started at 12.01am yesterday.
By 9.45am, about 75,000 users had successfully registered for the 20-baht fare cap — with 60,640 registering their Rabbit cards on the system, while 20,250 linked their Europay Mastercard and Visa (EMV) contactless cards.
While the app operated normally throughout the day, Mr Pichet noted some users reported some issues while registering their EMV cards.
Government spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub urged more people to sign up for the 20-baht fare cap, as all Thai citizens with a valid 13-digit ID number are eligible to sign up.
