Authority plans to increase capacity
The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) is expected to regain a key role as the largest power supplier, surpassing private companies as it supports the country’s transition to clean energy.
The private sector still commands the largest share of power generation, leaving a 30% proportion to Egat, down from 50% in 2005.
A plan to increase the electricity generation capacity of Egat is slated for the new power development plan (PDP) as Thailand needs to ensure power reliability when the country uses more renewable power.
