EC denies foreign study trip claims

Bangkok Post

March 20, 2026

The Election Commission (EC) issued a late-night clarification denying reports that its chairman and senior executives would join overseas study trips with participants in an executive political development programme.

- CHAIRITH YONPIAM

The clarification followed a cabinet request for state agencies to suspend foreign study visits.

Reports had suggested that the EC chairman and top officials would accompany participants in the Advanced Political and Electoral Development Programme, Class 16 (Por Tor Sor 16), on four overseas study tours scheduled after the Songkran holiday in mid-April.

Sawaeng Boonmee, EC secretary-general, said EC chairman Narong Klunwarin, EC commissioners and he himself would not travel abroad as part of the study tours, contrary to media reports.
