Dropbox wants you to pay to play

Over the New Year, however, I had an issue with Dropbox. A friend has the paid version with 2TB of storage and I wanted to send him some music-related stuff — in this case some Impulse responses. From his end it was easy, share a folder and give me write access. From my end it was a simple matter of using that link and dropping a folder into his. The first one of these went through without an issue. After that it was madness. The second folder failed. After that the Upload button vanished from the screen. Undaunted, I tried another computer where I managed to get the Upload button back but it still didn’t work. Every time I received a “do you want to wait?” message. When I clicked on “yes’ it eventually displayed a “something went wrong” page and “try again later’ I looked for some help but unless you have a paid account you get no help from Dropbox apart from some documents that were of no assistance. After a few more failures, I tried zipping up the folder and it worked. It turns out that Dropbox cannot handle more that a certain number of files in a folder and just hangs. No sensible message or warning. Perhaps they want you to pay before telling you this? It should not be this hard to do the most basic of things.
