Court to grill 6 in election case

The Constitutional Court will examine six witnesses on Wednesday in a high-profile case accusing two former ministers of interfering in the Senate election process.
The case stems from a petition submitted by senators questioning whether former deputy prime minister and defence minister Phumtham Wechayachai, and former justice minister Pol Col Tawee Sodsong, should have their ministerial positions terminated under constitutional provisions.
The petition claims both men allegedly used the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to influence the selection of Senate members, pressuring and intimidating legislators, and breaching the separation of powers.
The court will hear testimony from six people, including the two former ministers, DSI Director-General Pol Lt Col Yutthana Phraedam, DSI Deputy Director-General Pol Capt Surawut Rangsai, Pol Maj Gen Chatwat Saengphet, who is a senator, and Election Commission (EC) Secretary Sawaeng Boonmee.
