Court accepts case against EC members

The Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases has accepted a lawsuit filed against seven members of the Election Commission (EC) and its secretary-general over alleged abuse of power and collusion in connection with the controversial way in which the previous Senate election was processed.
The court ordered the defendants to submit written statements within 30 days. The suit was lodged by Akkharawat Phongthanachalitkuun, a reserve senator, along with a group of fellow reserve senators and their legal team.
They accused EC chairman Ittiporn Boonpracong, six other commissioners and EC secretary-general Sawaeng Boonmee of unlawfully manipulating the process by allegedly allowing collusion, vote arrangement and the use of prearranged lists and networks of influence to distort the outcome of the selection of senators.
