Bail rejected for ex-MP candidate in laundering case

The Criminal Court rejected bail for Boonyarit Raorungrot, a former MP candidate of the People's Party (PP), citing money laundering allegations tied to drug networks and a risk he might flee.

Mr Boonyarit, 47, along with three other associates named only as Mr Maitree, 47, Ms Sukharuedee, 43 and a 25-year-old Lao national, Ms Supaphon - were brought by Narcotics Suppression Division 2 investigators to court for their first remand hearing on Wednesday evening.

The three are accused of jointly committing money laundering by transferring or receiving assets connected to offences to conceal or disguise their source, or to assist others to evade punishment or receive reduced penalties.

Such offences carry a maximum sentence of 10 years' imprisonment. All suspects denied the charges during questioning.
