Another health app

The Public Health Ministry is set to relaunch its Mohpromt application next month, pivoting from its role as a central platform for Covid-19 vaccinations to a comprehensive digital health "super app".

The promise of a unified digital health gateway is enticing, yet it ignores a grim reality: Thai people are already drowning in a sea of fragmented platforms. For an average citizen, the digital health landscape appears like a confusing maze. There is Paotang, the government's primary welfare platform featuring a "health wallet"; the National Health Security Office (NHSO) app for universal healthcare beneficiaries; and SSO-plus for those under social security.

When factored in with individual apps from different hospitals, and more than 50 other specialised applications currently managed by the Public Health Ministry itself, the arrival of another super app appears less like an innovation and more like an expensive redundancy.
