Sculptor's plan is approved

Ayrshire Post

An internationally renowned sculptor and award-winning artist has been granted permission to breathe new life into the former Post Office building on Maybole’s High Street.

- PAUL BEHAN

The Post previously told how Belfast-born Siobhan Hapaska had taken on the building after it was previously placed on the market.

She then announced plans to turn the 112 year-old building into an artist's residence/work studio.

Now her proposals have been approved under delegated powers.

In 1993 Ms Hapaska won a Barclays Young Artist Award and had her first solo exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London during 1995 and 1996.

Hapaska has exhibited her works throughout the world, most notably at Paris, Dublin, Stockholm and Hamburg, among others.

Some of her works explore themes of conflict, faith and the human condition.

And she uses a variety of synthetic and natural materials in her work too, along with sound and light elements. Much of her work involves large installations.
