Camberley run chase falters as Guildford withstand heat

ON a blazing Saturday afternoon more suited to a beach towel than a batting helmet, Camberley made the short journey down the A31 to face Guildford.

With not a cloud in sight and temperatures soaring into the 30s, the famous flat pitch looked like a dust bowl, and the outfield promised full value for any shot that pierced the ring.
Locals huddled under trees, water bottles were in high demand and even the scorers were reaching for sun cream, this was Surrey league cricket at its sunburnt finest.
Both sides knew the heat would be as much an opponent as the men in front of them.
Camberley won the toss and elected to bowl.
