With mindful eating, hydration and balance, you can savour Diwali's delights without the guilt or gut burn, health & lifestyle coach Sapna Vyas tells you how
-
Diwali is a festival of lights, colours and indulgence... It’s the time when homes glow, hearts rejoice, and tables overflow with delicious treats. But while we celebrate, our bodies often pay the price, late nights, heavy meals, sugar binges and a noticeable drop in energy.
The good news? You can enjoy all the joys of Diwali without compromising your health. With mindful choices, simple routines and a bit of planning, you can celebrate fully while keeping your mind, body and gut happy.
Eat smart, not less
The first rule is simple: don’t demonise food, but don’t go overboard either. Start your day with a protein-rich breakfast of eggs, sprouts or milk with oats to stabilise blood sugar and prevent over-snacking. When reaching for sweets or fried snacks, opt for smaller portions. Enjoy the flavours, but don’t let them dominate your plate. Pairing treats with fibre-rich foods like salad, raw veggies, or roasted nuts slows digestion and prevents bloating.
People with diabetes: Opt for low-glycaemic sweets or balance your indulgences with protein and healthy fats to prevent blood sugar spikes. Plan small, spaced-out meals rather than grazing all day.
