One Battle After Another sweeps comedy category with four major wins even as Hamnet upsets vampire thriller Sinners

Filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson's ragtag revolutionary saga One Battle After Another took top honours at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, winning best film in the comedy category, while Chloe Zhao's Shakespeare-inspired drama Hamnet pulled off an upset over Sinners to claim best film, drama.

One Battle After Another won four awards overall — best film, comedy; best supporting female actor for Teyana Taylor; and best director and best screenplay for Anderson. He became only the second filmmaker to sweep director, screenplay and film as a producer at the Globes, after Oliver Stone achieved the feat with Born on the Fourth of July.

In an awards ceremony that unfolded largely as expected, the night's final prize proved the biggest surprise. While One Battle After Another had emerged as the clear front-runner this awards season, many had pegged Ryan Coogler's Jim Crow-era vampire thriller Sinners as its closest competition.
