Thousands gather for soapbox challenge
Accrington Observer
|August 29, 2025
THE Amazing Accrington Soapbox Challenge saw 12,000 spectators gathered in the town centre to watch nearly 30 fearless entrants take on the 170-metre track - with the fastest times ever recorded.
Saturday's course featured daring jumps, water blasters, and a brand new ramp to increase both speed and suspense.
Competitors battled it out for the top spot, with prizes awarded for first, second and third place.
Among the standout moments was BBC Radio Lancashire's Graham Liver, who took on the track in Chicken Run, the fastest soapbox kart in the event's history.
SB Tippers’ run featured a skeleton driving a coffin.
Champions of the day were once again Senator who won in 2024.
A very close second went to Devil's Haircut Racing, and third place was awarded to new entrants Baxenden Car Breakers, who were delighted to place on the podium first time out.
