FORMER Football League star Lewis McGugan has expressed his delight at taking joint-charge of home-town team Long Eaton United.
The Blues kicked off life in Southern Premier Central at Leamington yesterday following a tumultuous week. Boss Ian Deakin, who led the club to back-to-back promotions, and his management team were surprisingly sacked on Tuesday.
Deakin admitted he was ‘saddened and disappointed’ with the way his time at Grange Park came to an end.
On Friday morning, Long Eaton unveiled McGugan and Brad Munn as their new managers. The duo had previously been in charge of NPL Midlands outfit Loughborough Dynamo with Munn as boss and McGugan as assistant. They will now, however, take joint-charge of the Step 3 newcomers.
It’s a special opportunity for ex-Nottingham Forest, Watford and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder McGugan.
