Play-off bid was 'unbelievable'

STEVE KING says he leaves Gloucester City proud of their achievements after reaching the National League North play-offs for the first time ever – and creating his own unique slice of Step 2 history in the process.

The Tigers are set to revert from their hybrid training model to the traditional two evenings part-time under incoming chairman, ex-Hungerford chief, Patrick Chambers.

The social media outpouring since his departure shows how Tigers fans took King and his side to their hearts as they went from 15th in the table to a play-off chase, eventually finishing seventh thanks to an epic finale.

Trailing Chorley 3-1 with less than 15 minutes to go – and needing a win – they turned it around for a dramatic stoppage-time 4-3 triumph to book an Eliminator with Brackley Town. It also meant King is the first manager to get teams into both the North and South play-offs.
