New Hawks boss eyes long-term revival
STEVE KING believes Havant & Waterlooville have the foundations to be higher up the Pyramid – but the new boss says time is key as he looks to kick-start their season.
The Hawks axed manager Jamie Collins following Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to Eastbourne Borough that left them bottom of the National League South table with just one win from their first eight games.
No boss has had more play-off finishes in the division than King. Having won it in 2008 with Lewes – who he guided from Isthmian Division One South to NonLeague’s top table – he has taken Farnborough, Whitehawk, Welling and Dartford to promotion finals.
His Darts side beat Havant to get there in 2020, where they ultimately lost on penalties to Weymouth, after he took them over in a similar lowly position to Havant.
King hopes to lead a revival in the same manner but knows what a tough league this year’s is.
