Yellows look to build on Step 3 survival

DETERMINED boss Marc Abbott believes AFC Sudbury can build on their great escape when they line up again in Southern Premier Central next term.

A late season surge saw the Yellows overhaul Hitchin Town to scramble out of the drop zone, though, ironically, the Canaries have since had a relegation reprieve following Coalville Town's shock withdrawal.

Nonetheless, the Suds were mighty proud to pull themselves clear of danger on the pitch on their return to Step 3. Having been promoted from Isthmian North the previous season, manager Rick Andrews and a bunch of players quit in the wake of budget cuts.

It left the club with a mountain to climb and it was Abbott who had the desire to take on a challenge that many would have shied away from.
