Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), a premier government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, was established in 1970 in Hyderabad, India, to be the manufacturing base for guided missile systems and allied equipment for the Indian Armed Forces.

Bharat Dynamics Limited EXPANDING HORIZONS

In its early years, BDL collaborated with foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to supply various missiles and allied equipment for the Indian Armed Forces.

The Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme, launched by the Government of India in the 1980s, created vast opportunities for BDL. Identified as the Prime Production Agency, BDL worked closely with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to assimilate advanced manufacturing and program management technologies. This transition enabled BDL to evolve from a missile manufacturer to a comprehensive Weapon System Integrator, providing complete solutions for the Indian Armed Forces.

Today, BDL is a multi-product, multi-location enterprise catering to the needs of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. BDL offers a range of products, including Surface-to-Air Missiles, Air-to-Air Missiles, Air-to-Surface Weapons, Launchers, Test Equipment, Underwater Weapons, Counter Measure Systems and Anti-Tank Guided Missiles. The company also provides Product Life Cycle Support and refurbishment services for vintage missiles and is increasingly focusing on AI-based products by harnessing future-generation technologies.

Why Delhi can't be Indraprastha

The recent proposal by a Delhi BJP MP to officially rename the capital city from Delhi to 'Indraprastha'—invoking the legendary city of the Pandavas from the Mahabharat—is more than a superficial suggestion. It is a politically motivated attempt to rewrite the complex, multilayered history of one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited metropolises.

Freedom on independence day

Volodymyr Mykolayenko, mayor of the city of Kherson in south Ukraine from February 2014 till December 2020, was aware of the perils of Russian attacks, because he witnessed the occupation of Crimea in 2014. But he never believed that Russians would attack the south of Ukraine and that too his city, Kherson. Here are excerpts from what he told Mridula Ghosh after he was freed from Russian captivity.
