Paulson plays Margaret, a Dust Bowl-era mother who's slowly descending into madness after being plagued by a perceived spirit. "The moment you're confronted with a larger problem, like Margaret is, that very tightly coiled survival tactic quickly just unwinds itself." After a series of performances where Paulson has played women descending into madness, she admits it can take its toll.
