INDIA'S pharmaceutical sector is often referred to as the “pharmacy of the world.” Behind this reputation lies not only drug formulation expertise but also the robust ecosystem of pharma processing machinery manufacturers.
From granulators and tablet presses to blister packing and sterile filling lines, Indian machinery has become a backbone for both domestic and international pharmaceutical production.
The Indian pharma machinery industry has grown rapidly over the last three decades, transforming from small-scale equipment suppliers to globally recognised solution providers. According to industry associations such as the Indian Pharma Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (IPMMA), the sector contributes significantly to India’s pharma exports, with machinery being shipped to over 80 countries.
The pharmaceutical manufacturing process starts with formulation development and raw material sourcing, leading to active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) synthesis, followed by blending with excipients. The mixture undergoes unit operations like milling, granulation, drying, compression, and coating to form the desired dosage, such as tablets or capsules. Quality control is integrated throughout the process to ensure safety and efficacy. Finally, the product is packaged and labelled before being distributed to patients.
Pharmaceuticals Machinery Market Size and Share from 2025 to 2035
The pharmaceuticals machinery market is estimated to be valued at US$26.8 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach US$49.9 billion by 2035, registering a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.4% over the forecast period.
