After his career flagged, intervention from Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith brought this Michigan master to the forefront of the blues
LARRY MCCRAY WAS one of the great new-generation blues guitarists of the Nineties, emerging out of Saginaw, Michigan, with 1993's excellent Delta Hurricane. He was a regular at blues festivals and clubs around the world, touring with Gary Moore, Albert Collins and many other guitar legends. McCray also released several albums grounded by his stinging playing — which was reminiscent of Albert King — and soulful, gospel-infused singing.

RELEASED AS A single, ahead of Shinedown's upcoming eighth studio album, this simple, well-crafted song, which was no doubt at least partially inspired by Def Leppard's “Hysteria” and U2's “With or Without You,” has guitarist Zach Myers flatpicking eighth notes with a clean bridge-pickup tone, laying down a repeating eight-bar pattern of ringing chordal arpeggios that share three common tones, with only the bass note changing every two bars.
