Drawing on, among other sources, hours of interviews conducted by Morgan Neville for his documentary Man On The Run, this copious volume is the fullest yet account of the long under-regarded Wings. Back then they enjoyed great success, though suffered critically, not least because the Fab Four were so greatly missed. Wings’ supposed status as a pale successor was affirmed by Alan Partridge’s patronage (“only the band The Beatles could have been!”). But today it’s understood that Wings and McCartney were treated harshly in their day by critics, and this book is a major part of their just reappraisal.
