What does a mountaintop in bloom or the dunes of the Cape smell like?
-
A single drop of Bossie Collective's indigenous plant oils - the brainchild of botanist and archaeologist Dr Elzanne Singels-will provide the sensory journey that reveals the answer.
“Africa has a captivating variety of useful plants. Humanity would not have existed without them. While researching my PhD, I worked with the remains of a variety of plants – such as silver bush everlasting (kooigoed), buchu, sour fig, currant-rhus (taaibos) and wild olive – that hunter-gatherers left in caves thousands of years ago.”
She realised that almost all biodiversity in Africa is strongly connected to humanity. “After completing my studies, I started working in regenerative agriculture in the private sector, with a focus on the ethical trade of indigenous African ingredients. That’s how I got to know these ancient ingredients within a modern context.”
