August 2025

Last year was a landmark year for Tatler Travel. We hosted the inaugural Tatler Best of Asia Awards in November to celebrate the best in Asian hospitality—the region's top restaurants, bars and, for the first time, hotels—across a two-day event held at the (then newly reopened) Dusit Thani Bangkok. It felt apt to celebrate at an iconic hotel that means so much to so many.

Slow and Steady

And hotel reopenings have been dominating the travel headlines in the last 12 months. In July, Tatler was one of the first to check into Splendido, a Belmond Hotel in Italy's Portofino. The legendary cliffside hotel, which was back in business in June, once welcomed the likes of Humphrey Bogart and Elizabeth Taylor, who visited so often they named her favourite pasta dish after her.

Next month, Waldorf Astoria New York—which, by the way, invented room service—will also make its highly anticipated comeback, while Park Hyatt Tokyo, made famous by the 2003 film Lost in Translation, will reopen soon after. There's certainly an appetite for hotels and travel experiences that are rooted in nostalgia.
