Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master, There Will Be Blood) is widely considered to be one of the finest Hollywood filmmakers of his generation, and he has a reputation for being an unyielding perfectionist when it comes to his craft.

One Battle After Another, equal parts action thriller and black comedy, is Anderson’s passion project, a contemporary re-imagining of Thomas Pynchon’s cult novel Vineland. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as the protagonist Bob Ferguson, an over-the-hill, perpetually stoned ex-revolutionary. When his precocious teen daughter Willa is kidnapped, Bob must find his former colleagues (from a far-left militia called ‘French 75’) and rescue his daughter before the sins of the father are visited upon her.
