Cynthia Nixon is in her 'season three era' right now. The actress, 59, concurrently stars in the third offerings of both And Just Like That... and The Gilded Age— two shows set in New York but with more than 140 years between them.

Sitting down with New Idea, Cynthia tells us she’s “excited” to be in this stage of her career, where she’s allowed to show “so many colours” and have “so many strings in [her] bow”. We chat about what's in store for her The Gilded Age character — the recently widowed and newly wealthy Ada — and why she'll never tire of playing Miranda Hobbes. What do you think it is that makes The Gilded Age so popular?

I think it’s the same reason Downton Abbey was — and why we all watched it. It’s beautifully written, beautifully cast, gorgeous to look at and it’s set in a fascinating period in history.
